Geology –

Earth and it's related have always been close to my heart. At 10 years old, I became fascinated with watering my mom’s houseplants, and seeing how they flourished. At 16, while hiking the hills and valleys in central Finland, I wondered about the land formations with hills, ravines and ponds here and there, yearning to understand how all this formed.

Then, after a short stint with ceramics and clay, I found geology. This highly analytical, visual science attempts to understand not only the formation of landmasses with ridges and crevices but also the subsurface. And there lies the interesting part, the various types of rocks, and their associated minerals; the slow erosion of existing rock, deposition and lithification (becoming rock again); the explosive wonder of volcanoes; the slow working, and also invisible, of mineral-changing metamorphic processes.

But rock is more than just that, that hard substance beneath us all. It is the source for soil, from which we derive our sustenance and nutrition; it is the source for minerals and metals that we both delight in and use for many purposes. Crude oil is extracted from beneath the layers of rocks for providing us with energy, even salt is mined from the depths to season our meals.

Understanding the rock includes also dynamics of it, such as earthquakes with their destructive power. Volcanoes provide material for fertile soil but wreak havoc while erupting and exploding with lava flows, lahars, or mudflows or pyroclastic clouds with overheated rock-dust.

And we humans live on the earth, we build buildings on the surface of the earth and hope and calculate they will stay put, and sometimes we are thoughtless and spill and pour things that are harmful to us, the plant life and the animals. These we tend to mitigate the best of our knowledge and understanding.

I AM HAPPY to offer my understanding and experience to solve your geological problems.
